The advantages of braided lines over monofilament are numerous, but the first and most important asset is their breaking strength at the knot or linearly. There are many situations where a smaller diameter line helps us achieve a much more elegant presentation of the bait on the hook or the fishing lure.

Of course, the strength offered by a braided line is also an advantage if we are fishing in snag-filled areas, where we need to prevent the fish from escaping during the fight.

Evidently, the thin diameter and greater strength also mean longer and more accurate casts. Imagine casting with a 0.10mm braided line to similar distances as a 0.25mm monofilament, and the ratio holds true for larger diameters as well – so that above 0.45mm, the casting distance with monofilament becomes shorter and shorter due to the increased diameter.

The lack of elongation specific to monofilaments is an advantage of braided lines, but we must always consider pairing them with a soft rod, with parabolic or semi-parabolic action.
